LAKE ENDINE: A Natural Paradise Near Bergamo
Although it’s less crowded and sometimes overlooked by locals (who tend to prefer the livelier shores of Lake Iseo), Lake Endine is a true gem.
Its emerald-green waters are framed by mountains, forests, small villages and even a castle. The area is peaceful and surrounded by nature, ideal for relaxing walks or simply spending a quiet afternoon by the lake.

CRESPI D’ADDA: The UNESCO Workers’ Village
Among the most fascinating places to visit near Bergamo, Crespi d’Adda is definitely one of a kind.
This 19th-century industrial village, built by the Crespi family, was designed as a self-contained community for factory workers — complete with homes, a church and a school.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, Crespi d’Adda remains perfectly preserved. Walking through its quiet streets feels like stepping back in time, as if the workers might return at any moment.
Even though the factory closed long ago, many families still live here today, keeping the village alive.

THE ROMANESQUE CHURCHES NEAR BERGAMO: San Tomè and Surroundings
At the foot of the Imagna Valley lies an area rich in Romanesque architecture, connected by a circular trail that can be completed in about two hours on foot (or easily by car).

CORNELLO DEI TASSO: The Quintessential Mountain Village
If you ask me which village is the most beautiful in the Bergamo province, I have no doubt: Cornello dei Tasso.
This tiny medieval hamlet has remained perfectly intact over the centuries. It was the birthplace of the noble Tasso family, who invented the modern postal system, a story told in the small local museum.
The most picturesque spot is the porticoed Via Mercatorum, once a key trade route through the Alps (this is one of the best walks in Bergamo and its surroundings). If you enjoy hiking, follow the section that connects Cornello dei Tasso with Oneta — an easy, pleasant and scenic trail (30 minutes to Oneta village).

VERTOVA VALLEY: A Hidden Natural Gem Near Bergamo
In recent years, Val Vertova (Vertova Valley) has become so popular that local authorities had to restrict car access to preserve its environment. I suggest you book online during the high season.
Today, you can reach this stunning valley only on foot, following a beautiful path that runs alongside a crystal-clear stream.
The walk takes about 45–60 minutes and is not difficult, making it perfect for families. Along the way, you’ll cross small wooden bridges and admire natural pools and waterfalls — a little alpine paradise just a few kilometers from Bergamo.

MALPAGA CASTLE: Top Things to Do near Bergamo
Located just outside Bergamo, the Castle of Malpaga is considered the most beautiful castle in the Bergamo province.
Built in the 14th century, it reached its peak under Bartolomeo Colleoni, the famous condottiero (military leader) who made it his home.
The castle’s interiors are adorned with magnificent frescoes from different periods, including works by Romanino, one of the most important Renaissance painters of Lombardy.

THE MINES OF BERGAMO: Dossena and Schilpario
Mining has been part of Bergamo’s history for centuries. Today, several of these former mines have been transformed into museums and tourist sites.
Among the most interesting are:
- The Schilpario Mines, in the Val di Scalve, which offer guided tours through the tunnels once dug by local miners
- The Dossena Mines, in the Val Brembana, where part of the underground galleries has been converted into a fascinating adventure park built right inside the mountain. In Dossena you can also find a Tibetan bridge and a panoramic walkway suspended in the void!
Visiting these mines is both an educational and emotional experience — a journey through the hard-working soul of Bergamo’s past.

The Valle del Freddo (Valley of the Cold) Nature Reserve is one of Bergamo’s most curious natural attractions.
At first glance, it looks like an ordinary valley — but it hides a rare microthermal phenomenon: cold air emerges from small holes in the ground, creating a microclimate where alpine plants like edelweiss grow at just 350 meters above sea level!
Access to the reserve is only possible via guided tours, which allow you to appreciate and understand this unique natural wonder safely.

ONE LAST TIPS: Street Art in Covo and Calcio
Not everyone is a fan of traditional attractions. For those who love modern culture, the Bergamo plain has seen a rebirth of street art in towns like Covo and Calcio.
Local and international artists have been commissioned to paint murals on the walls of homes, bringing a fresh, colorful identity to these otherwise quiet villages. Year after year, new masterpieces appear, turning these towns into open-air galleries.
This is a perfect example of how Bergamo’s province blends history, nature and contemporary culture, making it more than just a typical travel destination. I suggest you this unusual attraction not far from Bergamo!
